Some news

  • 9th January Visa Immonen defended his  doctor’s thesis “Golden Moments: Artefacts of Precious Metals as Products of Luxury Consumption in Finland c. 1200–– 1600″ in Turku. His homepage has a bit more info on the subject, and it also has a link to the publisher’s, the Society of Medieval Archaeology in Finland, site where it’s possible to order the dissertation. The book costs 55 euros.
  • Aboa Vetus museum in Turku is having a wonderful exhibition next autumn called Luxury – Medieval Bling Bling, that showcases history of accessories and ornaments from a touring Norwegian exhibition. Unfortunately the museum’s internet page tells nothing more at the moment.

Sources update

I’m slowly trying to improve this blog, and I’ve just finished updating the first batch of the sources page.

I’ve listed some of my favourite books in my Library Thing account and linked some possibly useful illuminated manuscripts,articles and instructions. Later on I’ll list some interesting groups and shops.

I had drafted a post earlier this week where I told that I’m travelling to Åland next Monday to attend the Saltvik Viking Market and how I was panicking because our tent from Tentorium had not arrived and I had tons of sewing to do. Well, the post was never finished, our tent came two days ago and the boy still has nothing to wear except some old horrendous rags and unfinished clothes. In other words, these past couple of days have been a bit hectic.

We’re driving tomorrow after work to Turku, from where we’ll sail to Åland. After the trip there’s going to be some more thorough posts about the tent, sewing projects and of course the market.
